Attorney General Chris Koster visited MU in February to meet with superintendents from across the state for a luncheon and an open roundtable to discuss the educational climate in Missouri.
"The discussion is meant to be an exchange of ideas and concerns that will provide a learning opportunity for both sides," said Dan Lowry, Co-executive director of MU Partnership for Educational Renewal (MPER), which hosted the event as part of bi-annual MPER Governing Board meeting. |

“I need you to get into groups and discuss how you entertain yourselves. Where do you go? Who do you go with? Does media play a role?” Professor Eryca Neville began the day’s Inquiry Into Schools, Community, and Society I class immediately with a group activity, actively involving students in the lesson right from the start.

Building School & Futures in Kenya By Kristin Piombino
"One of my professors at Mizzou, Dr. Phil Messner, used to tell me that he knew I would do great things. I would look at him and think, ‘What makes you think I can do anything?'"
Just a handful of years later, Teresa Wasonga, EdD '02, is making Dr. Messner's words a reality and doing some truly great things. In the summer of 2009, Wasonga visited her native Kenya and made a decision that would impact not only her future but also the future of hundreds of Kenyan children as well. Using property that she already owned, she began to lay the groundwork for an all-girls' secondary education boarding school. "Underprivileged Kenyans educate their sons first and then their daughters if there is any money left over," Wasonga says. "This is a place where girls will come first."
